How much longer can America keep behaving like this, I don’t really care, but you’re dragging down the rest of the world and I’ve got family I worry about. At least the morons who voted for Trump are now suffering.
The only real solution for SS is to raise or eliminate the cap, and move the funds to an escrow account untouchable by the government. The new SS fund could buy US Treasuries to make it less painful.
I've been concerned with the Social Security issue, in much less detail, since I learned of it in Freshman Civics in 1971-72. The short story was indexing Social Security payments to inflation, combined with birth rate trends, would lead to a funding crisis. Newspapers and TV news had explanations, with charts. Voters responded as they always do, shrugged and changed the channel on the TV to distract themselves from reality. 55 years to elect responsible adults, and no one could make the effort. The only progress in 55 years are remote controls and voice assistants, to more easily administer the distractions.
