Dear Fellow Expat:
Two years ago, I stood in the Bahamas beside a local man.
His plain blue dress suit looked like he'd bought it at a thrift shop.
He was telling his goals. If he made enough money on Bitcoin, he wanted to run for governor of the island.
With so many people telling me how much Bitcoin they owned in a series of days, it was hard to imagine who was telling the truth.
So, I asked the man – no older than 35 – how I could tell who was a crypto-zillionaire… and who was a fraud.
“Why don’t you ask them to show you their wallet?” he said.
After a pause, I smiled… now a thankful journalist for someone writing the question for me. “Okay, can I see your Bitcoin wallet?”
He hit two buttons on his phone and showed me the screen.
Total assets: “$87 million.”
“And I’m still acquiring,” he said, sliding the iPhone back into his suit pocket.
During the 2022 SALT-FTX Conference … Bitcoin was just around $25,000…
Today it’s nearly $90,000. (I hope that guy needs a butler).
Is the rally over?
Hardly.…
